You scoured the stores for deals on Black Friday. Then you looked for small business to support on Small Business Saturday. Today, don’t forget to give back. It’s Giving Tuesday, a day of donating your time and money towards good causes, both local and global.
The beauty of Giving Tuesday is that it’s a guilt-free day of shopping—-shopping for good causes to put your time and money toward. No matter how much you have to give, you can make a big impact. Here are three ways you can make the most of Giving Tuesday:
Mindfully donate to a local charity of your choice.
It’s one thing to write a check. It’s another to know where your money is going. There are great global organizations helping to rebuild our communities, support medical research or create a healthier environment. There are also great things happening in your community–does your kid’s school need funding for more music equipment? Does a local business need more support so they can extend their lease another year? Look for people in your community that could use a boost this holiday season, and see how you can give them a boost with your dollars.
Donate your time
You don’t have to just donate with money, you can also give your time towards a cause, too. Volunteers are always welcome at your local Salvation Army or your church. Or, donate your time to a local kid’s program and read some books with kids after school. Does an elderly neighbor need a hand with household chores? See if they would like an extra hand with cooking some meals or cleaning their house.
Donate your services
Don’t have time or money to spare this holiday? Give your expertise instead! Are you a graphic designer? Know a local biz who could use a logo or some design help? Donate your professional services to a company who’d love your guidance but perhaps can’t afford to hire you. Maybe you offer a free consulting session, or a free sample package of your offerings, or give a deep discount for a day to a small business or other organizations who buy your products. Your skills, from bookkeeping to baking, can translate into helpful results for a small business or organization in need.
